FAQ - What is ADHD?



ADHD

ADHD is hyperactivity disorder, and it stands for Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a disorder which some children are born with, and where a lack of concentration plays a big part in one’s life. Someone with ADHD is easily distracted, over-active, impulsive or a combination. Due to many stimulants from the outside world this behaviour can become stronger. Childeren with ADHD often find it difficult to differentiate important issues from small issues and prioritise.

Nutrition
There is no cure for ADHD. However, it has been shown that with dietary changes, behavioral symptoms of ADHD often diminish. A well balanced diet and identifying allergies, has a positive influence on hyperactivity and concentration problems with children and adults. A diet with restricted sugar intake, can especially lower hyperactivity.

Bloodsugar Balance
Simple carbohydrates, food colouring and e-numbers can cause high blood sugar levels. This can have a negative impact, especially on people with ADHD. Simple carbohydrates are in many “white products” (white bread, cakes, cookies, pasta, etc). BeauNu advises to avoid these type of products and to instead eat complex carbohydrate products, like vegetables, fresh fruit and wholegrain products which will balance your bloodsugar.

Fish Oil
BeauNu advises to eat a well balanced organic diet for people suffering with ADHD. A well balanced diet, can be supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Fish oil (omega 3) is one of those that is very good for ADHD, as studies have shown it has a positive effect on the brain and concentration. Often someone with ADHD can also benefit with extra magnesium, zinc, and vitamin B6.
