Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a chronic illness, as the main symptom is an unexplained debilitating fatigue. CFS may be caused through viral infections. Particular in women (70 %) aged 20 to 50, CFS is very common.
Summary of possible complaints in CFS:
- chronic fatigue (exhaustion)
- headache
- recurrent infections
- myalgia
- joint pain without redness or swelling
- impairment of short- term memory and poor concentration
- swollen lymph nodes
- recurrent sore throat
- fever
- food allergies and intolerance
- depression/anxiety
- intestinal/gut problems
- irregular heartbeat
- Loss of appetite
- sleep
CFS is often diagnosed if the person has four or more of the above symptoms for at least six months.
CFS can be caused by viruses (Epstein Barr, Cytomegalo , Herpes -6), parasites (Guardia, Toxoplasma), bacteria and fungi. Living an unhealthy lifestyle, long term stress can cause CFS.
