FAQ - What is fatigue and lethargy?



Fatigue and lethargy

There is a big difference between fatigue and sleepiness. When one gets sleepy this means your body and mind is ready for bedtime. With fatigue it is different one feels a constant tiredness, lack of energy and one doesn’t have the energy to enjoy life to the fullest.

One can get tired or feeling lethargic due to too much physical exertion, emotional stress, boredom or a lack of sleep. If this feeling persists even when one has had adequate sleep, good nutrition and reducing stress levels in their lives, then there might be a severe mental or physical problem.

Common causes of fatigue / lethargy:

  1. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
  2. allergy that leads to hay fever or asthma
  3. Fibromyalgia (FM)
  4. iron deficiency anemia (anemia)
  5. depression
  6. stress
  7. sleep
  8. thyroid
  9. eating disorders (anorexia, obesity)
  10. diabetes
  11. prolonged infection

It is known that certain medications can have fatigue and or lethargic symptoms for example: antihistamines to treat allergies, blood pressure medication, sleeping pills, steroids and diuretics.
