Fibromyalgia (FM) is a rheumatic disease, which accurse mainly in women between the age of 20 and 50 years old. The symptoms include chronic muscle pain, muscle stiffness, soreness/heavy feeling of the body, fatigue, poor sleep, depression and shortness of breath. Fibromyalgia is very difficult to diagnose and also knowing how/why it is caused.
Fibromyalgia primarily affects the neck, shoulders, back, chest, hips and thighs. Primary complaint is the constant fatigue over 90 % of the patients suffer from this. That is why fibromyalgia is often compared with the chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).
Summary of any complaints in fibromyalgia:
- fatigue
- pain and tenderness in the muscles of the hips, back, shoulder and neck
- muscles stiffness, especially in the morning and evening
- sore jaw
- shortness of breath
- headache
- night sweats
- sensitivity to odors, noises, bright lights
- depression
- fear
- cardiovascular problems (dizziness , palpitations)
- irritability
- poor memory and impaired concentration
- tingling in the limbs
- digestive complaints
Fibromyalgia can be caused by viral, bacterial or parasitic infection such as Lyme disease. Emotional stress, anxiety or depression and vitamin deficiencies can lead to fibromyalgia. Sometimes fibromyalgia is triggered by other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteo-arthritis.
